Entebbe-airport-UgandaUganda Safari News: According to our source at the airport, renovation works at the Entebbe International Airport passenger terminal will commence this July. The over-crowding at the check-in area especially during the peak operation periods have for a very long time been a pain to the airlines and their respective passengers some coming on their Safari in Uganda who for long have raised complaints to the management of the airport in vain not until recently.

A development master-plan for the airport, for a very long time has been in the making, has to this point not succeeded in achieving the key changes at the airport, like the more than ten years intention to shift our present-day cargo-section to the side of the old airport, where they had planned to construct a cargo village. Not until that has successfully been done can any considerable expansion at the current passenger terminal be made, for the time being leaving the present building to handle the ever escalating numbers, estimated to shoot up to 7.5% per year.

The log jam in handling departing as well as arriving passengers has unfortunately demoted the image of the once shining airport facility. Currently within the East African region Kigali, Nairobi and Dar es Salaam’s soon to be completed new terminal offer cutting edge facilities, whereas Entebbe stays based on the Twentieth century tech.

The scope of work at the departure terminal is apparently anticipated to incorporate a more outside spaces, considered redundant when vehicle drop-offs of the passengers, besides Government VIP’s as well as Diplomats, where stopped in the past. This strategy forces passengers to carry their luggage over a long distance from the car-park up to the terminal, without the assistance of escalators or even elevators.

We await more details as the kick-off date for the construction draws closer.
