8 DAYS TOUR TO RWANDA

Day 1 – ARRIVAL
Meet and be briefed by the tour guide at the airport. Transfer to Kigali for city tour. Visit places like the mosque quarter in Nyamirambo and this is the largest in the city centre, Nyabugogo market and the Franc-Rwanda cultural centre. Head to the hotel of your choice for dinner and overnight.

 
Day 2 – Transfer to Akagera National Park for a game drive.
Early in the morning after breakfast at your hotel, head east to the Akagera National Park for game viewing which is a home of giraffes, zebras, antelope, the diminutive oribi, the ungainly Tsessebe, the shy bushbuck, elephant, and spotted hyena. All these animals can be viewed and occasionally the astray lion. The Highlands give a breathtaking view across the rolling hills, rolling grassland to the extensive series of lakes that follow the meandering course of river Kagera, linked by papyrus swamps. There are also 500 species of birds. Have late lunch at the lodge then have the evening for leisure. Dinner and overnight at:

Day 3 - NYANZA - BUTARE
Early in the morning, have breakfast then drive to Kigali and continue via Gitarama to Nyanza to visit the former Mwami's palace. "Mwami" is the Kinyarwanda word for "King", and Nyanza which is between Butare and Gitarama, is a home to both a traditional Mwami hut and the more modern stone palace which was home to Mwami Rudahigwa Mutara III and his queen.
Enjoy some of the old war dances performed by young Intore dancers. After lunch, drive to Butare, and visit the National Museum which holds a large collection of handicrafts and Rwanda’s colonial history. Overnight in Butare.

Day 4 – Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking.
Early morning after breakfast, head to Nyungwe Forest National Park which is the largest afro-montane forest in East and central Africa and one of the most ancient. The Highlands provide a unique environment for 13species of primates, including l’Hoest, chimpanzees and owl-faced monkeys. While walking under the canopy of majestic trees, a large group of a hundred Angola Colobus monkeys can be seen feeding on wild figs and jumping from one branch to another. The forest also has over 250 different types of trees, shrubs and over 100 species of orchid and plant Lobelia. Head for chimpanzee tracking in the forest, lunch at the lodge and go for nature walks. Day 5 - LAKE KIVU
Have breakfast then head to Kibuye which is one of the most attractive places in Rwanda with stunning views on Lake Kivu. On the way to Kibuye, visit a tea factory with the total planted area of 12,862 hectares.Enroute and enjoy the fantastic views of Lake Kivu and its ragged shore which is one of the great lakes in Africa and also a volcanic lake. Day 6 - LAKE KIVU AND VOLCANOES
After a hearty breakfast, head to Gisenyi a place which is known for water sports .There is a chance for shopping in the local village market places. Have lunch at a beach restaurant. Drive to the base of the majestic volcanoes with amazing views across the peaks to volcanoes national park which is a home of the rare mountain gorilla - and the rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, swamp, open grassland, and heath. Arrive at Kinigi. Dinner and overnight at,

Day 7 - MOUNTAIN GORILLAS
Have early morning breakfast and with packed lunch, head to Kinigi where the park quarters are for briefing about the activity on how to behave in front of the gorillas. Then head to the top of the park and start the activity. The time to see the gorillas is unpredictable so it might take longer than expected or shorter. Tracking the gorillas through the unique vegetation of the Volcanoes National Park can take several hours of challenging walking in the wet muddy conditions. To see a gorilla, makes the difficult trek well worth it. Dinner and overnight at the accommodation above.

 

Day 8 DEPARTURE  
After breakfast, head back to Kigali then straight to the airport in time to catch the departure flight.
