AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK
Akagera NP is situated in the east of Rwanda along the Akagera River that is the natural border with Tanzania.
It covers over 2500 sq. km of Savannah west of the Kagera River, which denotes the border with Tanzania and it is a home of a variety of wildlife and over 500 different species of birds. It also has accommodation facilities that are suitable for tourists. Akagera is comprised of Savannah, lakes, swamps, woodland, and open grassland. The lakes draw out herds of elephant and buffalo, while the Savannah usually attracts giraffe and zebra. The park host lions, leopard, hyena and a dozen types of antelope. Near the lake are large pods of hippopotami as well as ominous crocodiles basking in the sun. Day1: Arrive at the airport and go for a city tour
Upon arrival in Rwanda, meet and greet the safari guide and then transfer to Kigali which is the capital city of Rwanda for city tour. Visit the genocide memorial site that is the Kigali Memorial Centre built on a site where over 250,000 people are buried. The Centre is a permanent memorial to those who fell victims to the genocide and serves as a place for people to mourn those they lost .Have lunch in Butare, visit the National museum to see the different handicrafts then head to Akagera National Park. Day2: Game drive and boat ride.
Early in the morning before sunrise, have a cup of tea then go for a game drive in the park in time to meet the early risers like the zebras, elephants, giraffes, adozen species of antelopes, which include the handsome Chestnut Coated impala, the diminutive oribi, the shy bushbuck, buffalo, a leopard, a warthog, a spotted hyena and maybe the astray lion. Head back to the lodge for late breakfast. After lunch, go for a boat ride on Lake Ihema and view animals like the Hippos, crocodiles, the water birds and some animals on the shores that come to drink water. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Day3: Back to Kigali.
Have breakfast in the morning and head to Kigali. Visit the university in Butare and also the cathedral church .Have lunch then head to the airport in time for the departure flight.
