What do Mountain Gorillas Eat?

mountain-gorilla-eatWhat mountain gorillas eat actually depends on where they stay as well as the time of the year.  Gorillas majorly feed on parts of green plants plus so many fruits. But, during the dry season there are fewer juicy fruits so they resort to eating seeds as well as tree bark. Because most of the fruits are high up in the trees, the gorillas have to climb to harvest them. Despite the fact that the gorillas eat a high proportion of fruits compared to leaves, shoots and stems, when compared to chimpanzees, gorillas consume less fruits. (more…)

Amazing News at the Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary

The good news is that this sanctuary is getting more and more chimpanzees which means it is steadily expanding. There haven’t been any registered death for quite a long time but births have been recorded with the most recent being Kyewunyo’s baby girl chimp who was born on 17th Feb 2016. It is one of the most amazing primates watching destinations in Rwanda. It is blessed with diverse flora and fauna, has a very rich vegetation cover which is why it is one of the most valuable conservation areas in Africa. The park occupies a space of 1020km sq with some of the places filled with rain forest, others bog habitants, bamboo, swamps, grassland and this is one place you will find the oldest and biggest patches of the montane rainforest. Four Nabbed With Blood Ivory at JKIA – Kenya

illegal-ivory-trinketsJust last week, an arrest of four transit passengers was made at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport – JKIA in Kenya. Of these four, three passengers were scheduled to fly into Hongkong and they are believed to be coming from Ghana as well as Mozambique, where they had possibly purchased the ivory mementos. Actually It is a bad reputation to the customs and airport security departments in those countries were these people where able to leave without the bloody ivory items being noticed. However their luck ran out once they landed in Nairobi. JKIA deployed a team of well trained security officials who also use sniffer dogs and this team was able to detect this team of people transporting the bloody ivory. (more…)
